Can Glutathione Shots help you?

If you’ve perused the virtual shelves of online skin care or cosmetic specialists, you may have seen advertisements for practices providing glutathione (GSH) shots or even glutathione shot packages for home use. While there can be benefits to these treatments, they are not without their risks. If you’re thinking of glutathione shots for yourself, here’s some things you should know.

Why Glutathione Shots are Popular

Glutathione shots are becoming more popular as people discover how important glutathione is for our health. A powerful antioxidant, GSH is present everywhere in our bodies, helping to regulate cellular function and fighting the free radicals that cause harmful oxidative stress.

While our bodies create GSH using amino acids from our food, this natural supply often falls short of our needs, particularly as we age. Low levels of GSH are tied to a range of health issues, including:

  • Skin problems (acne, rosacea, psoriasis)
  • Oral, colorectal, and breast cancers
  • Heart disease
  • Chronic inflammatory disorders (asthma, autoimmune disease)
  • Neurodegenerative disorders (Alzeimer’s and Parkinson’s)

Glutathione molecules are large and unstable, making them difficult to package as a supplement. Glutathione pills are one option but likely not very effective, since GSH is broken apart by the digestive system. That’s why practitioners have turned to glutathione shots as a way of delivering GSH directly into the bloodstream.

Glutathione Shots for Skin

There is also a growing interest in glutathione’s ability to even or brighten skin tone. GSH blocks melanin production and boosts skin’s ability to heal and regenerate, which can help make discoloration from age or injury less noticeable, while its overall health benefits give skin a healthy glow.

Administering Glutathione Shots

There are two routes for getting glutathione shots: visiting a practitioner or giving shots yourself at home.

In-Office Procedures

GSH shots are offered at high end spas, medical clinics, and aesthetician offices to help either skin appearance or overall health. This is certainly the safer option, so long as you research the facility and ensure there are qualified health professionals on staff.

Generally, patients receive multiple injections over a course of weeks or months. Results may take several weeks to appear and may not last unless patients continue to get shots.

Glutathione Shots at Home

While vials of GSH solution and injection packs are sold for self-administration, we do not recommend this route. As this is not an FDA-approved medication, it is hard to know exactly what is in the solution you’re injecting. Additionally, it may be difficult to safely inject yourself without special training.

Glutathione Shots vs Transdermal Glutathione

While glutathione shots can be effective in the short term, you may want to consider transdermal glutathione instead. When GSH is supplemented directly into the bloodstream, the body uses it very quickly!

On the other hand, Auro’s patented Glutaryl spray uses sub-nanotechnology to deliver a highly absorbable form of glutathione, so your body can get the most from every dose! Topical supplements are safer than shots and easy to use yourself, avoiding the cost and hassle of repeated trips to a clinic.
