Getting More Glutathione
Generally, our bodies synthesize glutathione using amino acids from food. But there are many reasons this supply can fall short of demand. GSH synthesis declines with age (just as we need it most) and GSH stores can be quickly depleted by trauma from illness or injury. The high level of toxins we encounter in our modern lives also takes a toll on our detoxification processes. Some choose to get more GSH by eating foods that promote GSH production, particularly cysteine, one of the building blocks of GSH. Foods good for this include:- Fruits: avocado, strawberries, papaya, peaches, oranges, bananas
- Vegetables: spinach, potatoes, okra, carrots, pinto beans, peas, broccoli
- Meat and Fish: hamburger, chicken, cod fish, liver, pork chop, eggs
